About College

The Perunthalaivar Kamarajar College of Education, Karaikal was established in 2001 under the aegis of the Union Territory of Pondicherry Colleges of Education Society(Often abbreviated as UTPCES- a registered society under the Society’s Registration Act,1860) receiving the grant-in aid from the Government of Puducherry under the sector Education to establish and run the Colleges of Education in the Union Territory of Puducherry. Now the college is being run by the society namely Pondicherry Society for Higher Education (PONSHE) from 2007. The SRC-NCTE a statutory body of offering Teacher Education Programmes, has accorded permanent recognition to this college.

This college has been functioning with the affiliation of Pondicherry University by offering one year B.Ed degree course in the academic year 2001-2002 with an intake of 60 students temporarily in the campus of Chief Educational Office (CEO), Thalatheru, Karaikal. The intake was increased from 60 to 100 in the academic year 2004-05. The college is offering two year B. Ed course with an intake of 100 students.

This college is functioning in its own building from March 2007 with the required infrastructure facilities such as class rooms, library, laboratories, furniture, apparatus and equipments, play field, teaching and other supporting staff as per the norms of the NCTE and the affiliating bodies.

The Pondicherry University has granted permanent affiliation in the academic year 2008-09. This college has been included in the list of colleges under 2(f) and 12(B) of UGC Act 1956 in April 2009. PKCE college has been accredited with ‘A’ grade (3.38 in a four point scale) by NAAC and the same is valid up to 19.02.2019.
